Nibel

Contract Activated - Neutralize Threat

Description:

There is a forest referred to as Nibel by the local creatures. There is an unknown threat that has left the landscape in ruin.Discover the cause and neutralize the threat.

Entry 01
LOCATION: Spirit Tree Glade

I arrived in this world just after a storm had passed through, and it must have been one hell of a storm at that. Whatever happened, the forest still feels like it hasn’t recovered fully. Trees snapped, nests scattered, and the light that once stood at the center of this valley — the Spirit Tree, apparently — looks like it hasn’t shone in a long time. Everything here feels quiet in the wrong way. Not peaceful. Just… emptied out.I started looking around the glades and noticed something small moving through the grass. A spirit creature, white and soft-looking, barely bigger than a fox cub. It woke up alone beside what used to be a nest. Judging by the way it looked around, it was looking for something. Or someone? Perhaps the one who raised it.I’ve seen a lot of worlds where the strong survive and the weak don’t. Survival of the fittest. This little thing doesn’t look like it should have made it through a storm like this. And yet it did.I’m curious to see how long that luck lasts.

ENTRY 02
LOCATION: Sunken Glades

I will admit, i did not expect this little spirit to still be alive. It’s moving through the forest carefully, stopping often to look around like it knows something out there could end the journey at any moment. The strange floating light joined it earlier. I think — it seems to be guiding it somewhere important. What’s interesting is the way the forest responds when they move together. Old structures are waking up. Doors opening. Stone mechanisms shifting like they’ve been waiting years for someone to pass through again.I’ve seen worlds where ancient systems only react to very specific people. A specific bloodline, a figure of great importance, etc. If that’s the case here, then this little wanderer might be more important than it looks.Side Note: The local fruit glows faintly in the dark. I tried one out of curiosity.
It tasted like bitter moss and regret.

ENTRY 03
LOCATION: Spirit Tree

Today the spirit climbed the old Spirit Tree. I wasn’t sure anything inside it was still alive, but when the light spirit returned part of its power, the whole forest reacted. For a moment — just a moment — I felt the forest breathe again. Then the sky darkened.A massive shadow passed over the valley, and the air changed instantly. I got a glimpse of the creature responsible: a giant owl, easily large enough to carry off a small deer if it wanted to.Was this the threat the contract was referencing? Honestly, I'm not so sure.Something about the way it moved felt less like a predator hunting and more like a guardian defending territory.Which makes me think this situation is more complicated than a simple monster problem.

ENTRY 04
LOCATION: Thornfelt Swamp

The deeper parts of the forest aren’t nearly as welcoming as the glade. The swamp is filled with thorns, poisonous pools, and creatures that look like they’ve been surviving here by fighting for every scrap of food left. The little spirit nearly drowned earlier today. One wrong step and it slipped straight into a deep pool. For a moment I thought that would be the end of the story, but it clawed its way out and kept moving like nothing had happened.I’ve started noticing something about it. The spirit isn’t fearless — you can see it hesitate sometimes — but once it decides on a direction, it doesn’t stop.I’ve met hunters like that before. They usually get pretty far.

ENTRY 05
LOCATION: Ginso Tree

The giant tree to the east turned out to be infected from the inside. The entire structure was clogged with corruption, like poison sitting in the veins of something that used to be alive. The spirit climbed all the way to the heart of the tree and cleared the blockage. When the water finally broke free, it didn’t trickle out politely. The entire place flooded.I watched from the outer branches while the little spirit ran through collapsing tunnels with water chasing it like a tidal wave. Honestly, I was already preparing to write the final entry for this contract. But somehow it made it out.Not gracefully, mind you. More like barely surviving.Still counts.

ENTRY 06
LOCATION: Blackroot Burrows

This place is strange. Everything reacts to light — walls shift, old machines wake up, memories seem to surface when the right stones are touched. It feels less like exploring ruins and more like walking through someone’s mind. The spirit discovered pieces of its past here. I didn’t linger too close while that happened. Some things aren’t meant for outsiders to watch. On a completely unrelated note, I tried another glowing plant I found growing along the cave walls. It tasted even worse than the fruit.I’m starting to think this forest is actively trying to punish my curiosity.

ENTRY 07
LOCATION: Misty Woods

I’m convinced these woods are alive.Paths rearrange themselves when you look away. Trees twist into different shapes if you take a wrong turn. At one point I’m fairly certain the trail I had just walked down simply disappeared behind me.The little spirit got lost for a while. I could tell it was getting frustrated, circling the same clearing over and over again.Eventually it figured out the pattern and escaped.Watching it work through the maze reminded me of why persistence is such a useful trait in this line of work. Most obstacles aren’t impossible. They’re just a trial of patience.

ENTRY 08
LOCATION: Forlorn Ruins

Cold, that’s the best word for this place. The ruins are buried under ancient ice, and the air carries that heavy silence you only find in places that have been abandoned for a very long time. The spirit climbed the frozen structure to restore the winds to the forest. By the time it reached the top, half the building was collapsing beneath it.I kept expecting it to finally run out of luck. But the winds returned, and the forest shifted again.Step by step, things are being repaired.

ENTRY 09
LOCATION: Sorrow Pass

I got a much better look at the owl today. She’s enormous up close, but the anger in the way she moves makes more sense now.I caught a glimpse of the ruins of her old nest high up on the cliffs. Whatever happened during the storm didn’t just hurt the forest. It took something from her too.Grief can twist people in ugly ways.Apparently it does the same to giant birds.

ENTRY 10
LOCATION: Mount Horu

The mountain at the center of the forest is in terrible shape. Lava is spilling through broken chambers, like the entire place is bleeding fire. If the spirit fails here, the forest probably won’t recover. The climb was brutal. Heat, collapsing rock, ancient mechanisms that look like they were designed by someone who really didn’t want intruders making it to the top.Still, the little spirit kept fixing each chamber one at a time, as difficult as it may have been.Slow progress. But progress is progress.

FINAL ENTRY
LOCATION: Spirit Tree Glade

The forest is breathing again.Light has returned to the Spirit Tree, the rivers are flowing properly, and creatures that had been hiding are slowly coming back out. It’s strange how quickly life returns once the worst of a disaster is over. The little spirit stayed behind near the tree. I think it finally found a place where it belongs.Funny thing about this bounty. I arrived expecting to hunt something dangerous — a monster, a corrupt force, some kind of dimensional anomaly.Turns out the biggest problem here was grief and a broken forest. And the solution ended up being a stubborn little spirit that refused to give up.I can respect that.Persistence is a rare trait in most worlds. But when you find it, it tends to change everything around it.

THE MAW

Contract Activated - Neutralize Threat

Description:

There is a vessel known only as The Maw, hidden far beneath the ocean and sustained by an endless cycle of hunger.
Something within it has twisted both the inhabitants and the guests into monstrous versions of themselves.
Investigate the source of the corruption and determine why the Maw continues to feed.

Entry 01
LOCATION: Lower Decks

I’ve been to dying worlds before, but this place feels different. Most ruined places still feel like they belonged to someone once. Cities collapse, forests rot, machines break down — but you can usually still feel traces of life underneath it all.The Maw feels hungry. Not metaphorically. Literally. Every hallway, every pipe, every creaking room feels built around feeding something enormous and impossible to satisfy. Even the air smells damp and stale, like old metal and spoiled food left sitting too long.I spotted a child moving through the lower decks earlier today. Small. Barefoot. Yellow raincoat bright enough to stand out against all the rust and darkness around her.Strange choice of clothing for a place like this. Then again, maybe that’s the point.

Entry 02
LOCATION: Prison Area

The child — Six, according to some markings I found scratched into the walls — is making her way through the prison sections now.Calling these rooms “cells” feels generous. Most are little more than cages stacked on top of each other like storage crates. Some are empty. Some aren’t.I’ve noticed something unsettling about this place. Nobody runs here. Not the prisoners. Not the things watching them.Everything moves slowly, confidently, like the Maw already knows nobody can escape it.Six doesn’t seem to agree with that idea. She nearly got caught earlier while sneaking past one of the long-armed caretakers wandering the halls. I still can’t tell if those things are blind or if they just don’t need eyes anymore.Either way, hearing those arms drag across the floor behind her was enough to make even me uncomfortable. And I’ve hunted things far worse than this.

Entry 03
LOCATION: The Lair

The Janitor finally got close enough for me to study properly today.Too many joints in his arms. Fingers that move like spiders. Blindfold over his face even though I’m fairly certain there’s nothing underneath it anymore. The Maw really enjoys turning people into something else.Six spent most of today crawling through vents and climbing shelves while the Janitor searched for her beneath the floorboards. The whole thing felt less like a chase and more like watching an insect avoid being crushed under someone’s hand. What’s strange is how quiet she stays during all of this. No crying. No panic. Just movement.Careful movement.I found myself holding my breath while watching her sneak through one of the workshops. Ridiculous, honestly. She couldn’t hear me if she tried.Still did it anyway.

Entry 04
LOCATION: Kitchen Quarters

The kitchens are somehow worse than the prison. At least the lower decks were empty. This place is alive.Steam flooding the halls, meat hanging from hooks, pots large enough to boil entire animals whole. The chefs lumber around the room like oversized corpses stuffed into uniforms two sizes too small. One of them scratched his stomach for almost five minutes straight while cooking.I’m going to be thinking about that for a while.Six is getting better at surviving here. Faster too. She slipped through the kitchen while the chefs tore the room apart looking for her. At one point she hid beneath a table while one of them leaned down close enough that I thought he’d hear her breathing. He didn’t.Honestly, I’m beginning to think the Maw only notices people once they stop moving.

Entry 05
LOCATION: Guest Area

I finally saw where all the food goes. The guests arrived today.I don’t think I’ve ever seen a group of people eat with that level of desperation before. They crowded the tables shoulder-to-shoulder, shoving food into their mouths before they’d even swallowed the last bite. Some of them noticed Six moving through the dining hall. That was the first time I saw the guests move quickly. The way they reached for her… not out of anger, but hunger. Like they’d eat anything placed in front of them if given enough time.Maybe that’s the point of this place. Feed the hunger until hunger is the only thing left. The thought’s been bothering me more than I’d like.

Entry 06
LOCATION: Guest Quarters

Six stopped today. Not because she was hurt.Because she was hungry.I’ve noticed it happening more often as she moves higher through the Maw. She’ll suddenly slow down, clutch at herself, barely able to stand. Whatever this place is doing to her, it’s getting worse.A trapped creature offered her food earlier. Bread, I think. She ignored it.Later she found something else alive in the darkness.I’m trying not to think too hard about that part. The Maw changes things. I said that already, but I don’t think I understood how deeply it reaches into people until now.Nothing here stays innocent for long.

Entry 07
LOCATION: The Lady's Quarters

The upper levels are quiet in a completely different way from the lower decks.Cleaner. Controlled. The Lady’s quarters are filled with mirrors, broken porcelain, and rooms that feel more like shrines than living spaces. Whatever she is, the entire Maw bends around her existence like gravity.I finally saw her clearly today.Tall. Elegant. Calm. That’s somehow worse than the monsters downstairs. The others in this place feel warped and broken, but the Lady feels intentional. Like she chose what she became.Six followed her through the halls for hours without being noticed. Or maybe she was noticed and allowed to continue.Hard to tell with creatures like that.

FINAL ENTRY
LOCATION: THE MAW

It’s over.Or at least I think it is.Six confronted the Lady earlier today, and somehow the child survived. I still don’t fully understand what happened in that room with the mirrors and the shadows, but afterward something about Six changed. The hunger stopped. The fear did too.I watched her walk through the dining hall after everything ended, and for the first time since arriving here, the guests moved away from her.Not the other way around.Nobody chased her as she made her way toward the surface. Nobody even tried. The Maw felt quieter after she left. Not healed. Places like this don’t heal easily. But quieter.I came here expecting another contract. Another monster hidden in another dying world.Instead I found a child surviving a place designed to consume people. And somehow, against all reason, the place failed to consume her first.Persistence prevails again.
